AZ Anti-Immigrant Law SB1070’s 2nd Anniversary

Today marks the second anniversary of Senate Bill 1070, Arizona’s controversial “show me your papers” law. On Wednesday, April 25, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments around the constitutionality of the law.

Civil and human rights groups have argued that the Arizona law conflicts with the federal government’s authority over immigration enforcement and legalizes racial profiling. During the past two years, several states across the country have taken up similar anti-immigrant legislation. The hope is that a favorable Supreme Court decision will decisively defeat these laws.

Check out the video below featuring last month’s Selma-Montgomery March and the thousands of people who gathered to protest Alabama’s House Bill 56, which is actually even more extreme than SB1070.

Let’s hope that the crowd is this fired up in front of the Supreme Court on Wednesday!
